“Brewing Unseens” Exhibition – Takeover Beirut

Beirut, 2023

Many disciplines and systems of knowledge—whether centered on the divine, the universe and its energies, the unconscious mind, or occult beliefs—have long sought to capture, conceptualize, and connect with the unseen. Each employs its own distinct tools, symbols, and temporal orientations.

Originally conceived as an academic anthropological project, Brewing Unseens evolved into becoming a sensorial ethnography endeavor that incorporates meditative coffee cup reading sessions as well as installations. It borrows – and disturbs – elements from tasseography (divination through the reading of coffee grounds), psychoanalysis, psychology, and meditative practices.

The project invites a sensorial, fluid, and affective exploration of the realm of the unseen, free from epistemological and disciplinary classifications and temporalities; it proposes a form of un-disciplinarity by attempting to generate a subjective and intimate encounter with the forces that we cannot see.
