Affinities exist between the practices of anthropologists and psychoanalysts such as a shared concern with understanding the ‘other’, be it other cultures or the otherness within, of the unconscious.
The Freudian divan installation sought to suggest anthropological fieldwork methodologies and practices as tools for analysands to excavate their psyche.
The sound piece captures how a disciplined academic approach can lead to an encounter with the unbearable. The sound design was executed with the help of Marwan Tohme.
The installation was part of the group exhibition I Don’t want to talk but… curated by Melissa Ghazale.
